In my experience, weaning was a nightmare. I thought we could share some ideas of safe foods to try whilst weaning a child with fructose issues for people who visit this board. The foods I suggest are low-fructose but not necessary low-fructans as my daughter didn't have issues with them.
NOTE: If your child is displaying signs of a fructose issue this early you really need to go to your Dr and find a good dietician to ensure they are getting a balanced diet.
SAFE FOODS - baby rice combined with regular formula/expressed breast-milk. - instant porridge oats combined with regular formula/expressed breast-milk. - mashed potato. - rice once they can tolerate more textured food. - spinach and/or mushroom puree and pureed chicken or fish could easily be added to the above. - other low fructose veg that you could slowly experiment with include cauliflower, broccoli, celery, and cucumber. - banana and berries are the lowest fructose fruits, but personally I would start with the veg first. - Dahl made with lentils and a few spices such as cumin and tumeric.
If you are going down the Baby-Led Weaning route and starting straight from solids rather than purees then you could try the following: - homemade potato chips - roasted chicken drumsticks with all skin and gristle thoroughly removed - roasted strips of pork - boiled broccoli and cauliflower 'trees' - ricecakes
Anyone else have any suggestions?
