I need some sort of non-milk drink -- Kaelin needs to take some Miralax and I'm having trouble finding anything to mix it with.
When mixed with milk, it becomes extremely thick and quite undrinkable. Despite the label's assurance that it is "tasteless", Kaelin cannot drink it mixed in water. I've always used orange juice (actually 1/2 oj and 1/2 water).
Kaelin likes some herbal teas so I thought I'd try that, however, it needs to be sweetened for her to drink it. Any suggestions? I've tried and rejected many sweeteners -- but it could be more about the drink rather than the sweetener itself... (Like the time I made a "melted milkshake" with cream and vanilla and Kaelin got very, very hyper. I used table sugar, then Sugar Twin, then pure Stevia, then Sweet N Low... But maybe it was the dairy. Or the vanilla. So many ways to go wrong and never know exactly what to blame it on...)
So is she destined to a life of milk or water or are there other options for kids?

Kaelin usually sticks with water or milk -- but it turns out that when we go out, milk is harder to get than you'd imagine. We've encountered a number of semi-fast food places (not McDonald's, but not quite full-service) that have chocolate milk or even vanilla milk, but no regular milk.
We tried Lactaid milk last summer and I just can't remember why we stopped -- I'm pretty sure it did nothing to stop Kaelin's burping or alleviate any pain. This time, the pediatrician said to take the Lactaid tablets instead for several reasons. One, it's easier to transport, so Kaelin will be able to have milk anywhere; two, there's no Lactaid butter; three, we can control the amount of medication she takes; and four, the milk is really expensive compared to the tablets.
The doctor thinks that I didn't give Kaelin enough last summer (the instructions say one per serving. The doctor said we should be doing two or even three per serving.)
Kaelin's burping hasn't completely stopped, but it's mostly subsided. Sometimes I forget to give her any Lactaid when she eats fish and then she burps -- and only then do I remember that I used an obscene amount of butter to cook it in.
I tried the Crystal Light for Kaelin's Miralax. She liked it, so that was a huge plus. She only took it for two days. However, she still complains of side pain (and back pain, although I'm not sure there is a connection...) yet she says that she "runs to the bathroom" whenever she eats. I'm not sure that's entirely true, but it's true enough.
I don't know. Either the Crystal Light or the Miralax has a very quick affect -- and the affect lasts for days. Pain, urgent need, yet possible constipation... It's exhausting trying to figure out what is doing what!!!!!!!!!!!
