Hi my name is Sherri I live in Minnesota I am 42 and was DX with FM 5 years ago via hydrogen breath test. As long as I can remember I have had bowel issues I was always very skinny and my mom would do anything to get me to eat. As I got older my symtoms were worse I saw countless docters who said it was IBS eat more fruit and fiber when I did that I would get sicker. I had my gallbladder removed and basically couldn't eat anything without running to the bathroom. It was so frustrating going to gastro dr and getting the same answer. I researched on the internet and suggested to the gastro maybe it was fructose he said he woud order the test to quiet me and if it was neg. then I have IBS and to deal with it. well the test was positive and again the dr didn't have much info on diet or anything so what I have learned has been on my own. The HFI proboard was a lot of help. I look forward to leaning even more.

Hi sherri, Welcome to the board. It sounds like the same old story, no one believes you until the tests finally prove otherwise. And then they can't help you further because they don't know anything about it, thank god for the internet.
I think the problem is that alot of sufferers naturally limit their diets out of instinct so some symptoms bubble on (literally I suppose) with management but don't make you so acute that you have to call emergency services. The more people that get to understand FM the better understood it will become.

Also my daughter has FM too. She started symtoms about the age of 16 . She had the hydrogen breath test which was positive. She doesn't seem as sensitive as I am. I wonder if that is because she still has her gallbladder. She has no trouble with meats or eggs.
