test results are back

Kaelin does NOT have HFI. I was oddly relieved -- and not even remotely surprised.
For one thing, it's been 14 weeks since the test was run and I've yet to hear from the Metabolics doctor (despite a couple of calls asking for results.) I figured she'd call or at least have a nurse call if Kaelin had a positive result. After two weeks of waiting for a return call, I finally asked the pediatrician's office to see if they could get the info.
I thought that the HFI diet worked better for Kaelin -- but in all honesty, it works better for me. Sugar of any kind makes Kaelin insane, plus it totally destroys her sleep so her behavior problems continue through to the next day. Sigh. I was quite happy to follow a diet of zero sugar AND use white flour again. She could have snacks that didn't require cooking or refrigeration. Yippee!
However, the HFI diet wasn't better for Kaelin because it never improved the stomach pain. Flour continues to hurt. A lot. She'd have a snack of pretzels or crackers and she's been eating less each day and often skipping it altogether. I keep reading that popcorn is just fine for FM, but it was another thing that made Kaelin go 40 shades of crazy. However, it occurred to me that I always let her drink Crystal Light at the same time and I now know she cannot handle that. So I tried again with the popcorn -- and it seemed good. Really good. But then she confessed that it does, in fact, hurt her stomach a lot and that her poops were now liquid. That was a rather troubling development.
I'm just as confused as ever. With FM, she should be able to eat a few blueberries -- but wow, she cannot! Yikes. So I thought it must be salicylates, but she's fine with mushrooms, which is somewhat high (although not as high as blueberries.) Dextrose is an antidote to fructose, but it makes things far, far worse for Kaelin. So I thought that HFI may better explain things. But the white flour isn't working. And popcorn? What is that about? So before getting the results of the genetic test, I was pretty sure it wouldn't show anything. And considering how she does occasionally sneak in foods she shouldn't have, I am surprisingly relieved to know that she's not doing any damage to her system. (her psyche maybe, but no permanent damage to her liver or anything...)
I had been hoping for an answer -- but apparently I wasn't really hoping for this particular one...
